Re-Keying a Lock
While “replacing a lock” is self explanatory, rekeying takes a more technical route and requires a bit of explanation to be understood. Rekeying a lock simply means to change the corresponding key to the lock while still keeping the original lock itself (you keep the same lock but the old key will no longer be able to operate it). This is done through the process of replacing the “tumblers” or “key pins”. Each set of pins inside your lock will correspond with the new key you set it with. This may sound complicated however, it is actually more practical as the “pins” itself commonly come at a less costly price then replacing a lock altogether.
